Chowchilla

Orthonyx spaldingii

Also known as the Northern Logrunner.   The Chowchilla is endemic to the Wet Tropics and restricted to the Upland Rainforests.

Small quiet groups forage on the forest floor, raking the leaf litter as they go.

The dawn chorus is not the same without the rich warbling of the Chowchillas.

I took the photo below of a Chowchilla bathing in the bird bath at the Tuscany Cottage. I have also seen them from the verandah of the Bali cottage moving quietly through the forest.
