Brown Cuckoo-dove

Macropygia amboinensis

The Brown Cuckoo-dove is a large graceful rainforest pigeon with a long tapering tail. It  has an attractive red eye-ring and red legs and feet.

The birds feed on fruit, berries and seeds, and are very partial to introduced wild tobacco plant.  With their size and long tail, they seem almost clumsy in trees and will hang upside down to get that out of reach berry.

Pairs are commonly seen at the cottages, along the edges of the rainforest.
