Fan-tailed Cuckoo

Cacomantis flabelliformis

The Fan-tailed Cuckoo is easily distinguished from other cuckoos by its yellow eye ring.

At Crater Lakes, I have seen it sitting upright on a perch for long periods and calling with a descending musical trill.

Like other cuckoos, the Fan-tailed Cuckoo is a brood parasite, and will lay its eggs in another birds nest.
