I heard a clear and loud call the other morning. I wasn’t sure what it was, but I spotted this Helmeted Friarbird in the trees.
As it came in closer, and eventually to the feeder on the verandah, I took the video below.
It made me think about all the descriptions I have seen used to describe this bird who looks like a friar wearing a helmet. Words such as grotesque, unattractive, ugly, vulture like, a face only a mother could love …
I think we should come up with different and more flattering descriptions. What about stately or noble, or perhaps dignified?
